Wet Plate Image

A

Early photographic technique invented by Englishman Fredrick Scott Archer in 1851; Involved adding iodide to collodion and coating a glass plate with the mixture and developed by pouring pyrogallic acid over it and was fixed with sodium thiosulfate; The plate was wet when it was exposed to the camera and then it was immediately developed and fixed; The process was valued for the level of detail and clarify it allowed

Q

Fredrick Scott Archer

A

Published it in ‘The Chemist’ which enabled photographers to combine the dine detail of the daguerreotype with the ability to print multiple paper copies like the calotype; The directions for this process had to follow them very precisely in order to process the solution and coat the print thoroughly to show the image but it wasn’t that expensive; The exposure went down as well as the shutter speed

Q

What issues occurred from Archer’s attempt to patent the collodion process?

A

Trying to reduce the amount of texture and unevenness inherent in the paper used for calotype negatives, he tried spreading collodion on paper, but could not get the collodion to adhere to the paper after the necessary washing
