Ch 3 Tissues Flashcards
pathologist
physician who examines cells and tissues
Adherens junctions
contain plaque (PLAK), a dense layer of proteins on the inside of the plasma membrane that attaches both to membrane proteins and to microfilaments of the cytoskeleton
desmosomes
desmosome plaque attaches to elements of the cytoskeleton known as intermediate filaments, which consist of the protein keratin. contributes to the stability of the cells and tissue. Epidermis, cardiac muscle cells.
Hemidesmosomes
resemble desmosomes but they do not link adjacent cells. anchor cells not to each other but to the basement membrane.
Pseudostratified Celiated Columnar Epithelium
Location: airways of upper respiratory tract
Function: Protection, removes debris from lungs by secreting mucus
