Ch 3 - Managing the Information Systems Project Flashcards
What is Project Managment?
Controlled process of initiating, planning, executing, and closing down a project
Phases of Project Management
- Initiating
- Planning
- Executing
- Closing Down
Project Management Initiation Phase
Where activities are performed to assess the size, scope, & complexity of the project & to establish procedures to support later project activities
What is a Project Workbook?
Online repository for all project- related docs used for audits, orienting new members, communications, identifications, & reviews
What is a Project Charter?
Doc prepared for the customer during project initiation that describes what the project will deliver & outline at a high level
Project Management Planning the Project phase
2nd phase. Focuses on defining clear, discrete activities & the work needed to complete each activity within a single project. Includes tool like Gantt chart & network diagram.
Project Managment Executing the Project phase
3rd phase. Where plans created in prior phases are put into action
Project Management Closing Down the Proejct phase
Final phase, focusing on bringing a project to an end
Formula for Estimated Task Duration
Estimated Time = ((optomistic + 4(realistic) + pessimistic)) / 6
What is Critical Path Scheduling?
Indicates shortest time in which a project can be completed (meaning no uneccesary delay)
What is Slack Time?
Amount of time that an activity can be delayed without delaying the project; anything no on critical path
How do you calculate slack time?
Calculate the earliest possible completion time for each activity by summing the activity times in the longest path to activity.
Calculate the latest possible completion time for each activity by subtracting the activity times in path following activity from total expected time
