Q

What is the difference between engineering controls and work practice controls?

A

Engineering Controls:
Isolate or remove hazards from the workplace and should be maintained/replaced on a regular basis. (Sharps containers, needle recapping devices, hazardous materials bags)

Workplace Controls:
Reduces the likelihood of exposure in the first place, by specifying how tasks should be carried out. Based on the way people behave rather than physical structures.
(Keeping PPE in working order, checking med kits regularly, using bandages to minimize direct contact with blood)
