like Freud’s unconscious and preconscious but it’s more accessible; just the stuff you’re not thinking about right now
Personal Unconscious
things that provoke a particular feeling which are bound together
Complexes
the storehouse of unconscious memories that we’ve inherited from our human and pre-human ancestors
Collective Unconscious
templates we use to understand the world, as part of the collective unconscious
Archetypes
the face you wear in public, the ability to wear masks
Persona
the feminine and masculine sides in all of us
Anima/Animus
our capacity to inflict harm on others or ourselves
Shadow
in charge of the drive to become whole, goal of self-realization
Self
a person looks inward for answers/energy
Introversion
a person looks outward for answers/energy
Extroversion
making judgements about your experience
Rational
use logic and reason to solve problems
Thinking
judge how events made us feel
Feeling
nonjudgmental, passive reception of events
Nonrational
an initial passive experience of something
Sensing
working on gut instinct or hunches
Intuiting
condition that exists when one’s persona is too highly valued
Inflation of the Persona
our orientation toward the world
Attitudes
how a person perceives the world and deals with information
Functions of Thought
a harmonious blending of the many components and forces within the psyche
Self-Realization
the lifelong process of psychological maturity by which components of the psyche are recognized and given expression by a particular individual
Individuation
the attempt to explain adult personality in terms of prior experiences
Causality
human behavior has a purpose
Teleology
meaningful coincidence, or when fantasy becomes reality
