Qualitative Research Data
systematic approach used to describe experiences and situations from the perspective of persons in the situations.
Types and Purpose of Qualitative

- Grounded theory: To develop theoretical frameworks with relational statements between concept
- Ethnographic: To analyze culture
- Exploratory-descriptive qualitative: To answer the research question
Phenomenology
Provides a thorough description of a lived experience.
Phenomena: the conscious awareness of experiences that comprise the lives of humans.
Grounded theory
an inductive technique that emerged from the discipline of sociology. The theory is grounded in the real world based on data provided by participants.
Ethnographic

Researcher-Participant Relationship
One of the most vital differences between quantitative and qualitative; In quantitative, this is considered to be biased but in qualitative, it is a critical element of the research process. The relationship creates an impact on the way researchers. collect and interpret data.
Data collection methods in Qualitative research
- Interviews (Semi-structured, Unstructured, Structured)
- Focus groups
- Observation
Semi-structured Interview
Fixed set of questions, no fixed responses
Unstructured interview
Open-ended questions, with probes
Structured interview
Questions in standardized order, responses graded against scoring system
Rigor in Qualitative study
The strength of a qualitative study is the extent to which the identified meanings represent the perspectives of the participants accurately. Rigorous qualitative methods can facilitate the researcher to maintain an open perspective on the phenomenon.
