Q

Types of RNA

How many types of RNA is there and what are they?

A

5

mRNA-Messenger RNA (encodes the AA sequence of a polypeptide)

tRNA- Transfer RNA (transports AA to ribosomes during translation)

rRNA- ribosomal RNA (forms complexes called ribosomes with protein, the structure on which mRNA is translated)

snRNA- small nuclear RNA (forms complexes with proteins used in eukaryotic RNA processing)

miRNA/siRNA- Mirco RNA/SMall interfering RNA (short, 22nt RNA sequences that bind to mRNA and result in gene splicing)
