- Primary prevention

True prevention, preceding disease applied to patients in exceptional health
Primary prevention
Prevention focusing on people who have health problems or who are at risk of worsening health
Secondary prevention
Prevention that attempts to minimize effects of long term dissease, disability or defect.
Tertiary Prevention
Severe, short term illness ie: flu
Acute illness
Illness lasting longer than 6 months fluctuating between max and min health
Chronic illness

Risk Factors:
Variables that increase the vulnerability of an individual/group to an illness of accident
Addresses the relationship between a persons’ beliefs and behaviors
Health Belief model: Help predict how patients will behave in relation to their health and how successful they will be.
A persons ideas, convictions, and attitudes about health and illness.
Health Beliefs: Based on facts or misinformation…etc
Comprehensive view of a person as a biophysical and spiritual being
Holistic Health
Behavior based on sociocultural and social psychological factors adopted by people who are ill
Illness behavior
Help protect patients from actual or potential threats to health
Illness Prevention
Health promotion through activity from others rather than themselves
Passive strategies of health promotion
Health programs that require the patient to be actively involved in improving their own health
Active strategies of health promotion
Educates people how to take care of themselves in a health way; includes topics such as physical awareness, stress management, and self responsibility
Wellness education
State of a persons physical , emotional, intellectual, social, developmental, or spiritual functioning is diminished or impaired based on previous experience.
