•Based on the APTA, what is a PTA?
The American Physical Therapy Association, defines a PTA as a “technically educated health care provider who assists the PT in the provision of physical therapy.”
Define general supervision
the PT is not required to be physically present on-site for direction and supervision of the PTA, but must be available by telecommunication at all times.
How many PTA’s can a PT supervise in MS?
no more than 4
Define Direct supervision
the PT must be physically present and immediately available on site at all times to direct and supervise tasks related to patient and client management.
◦-Adhere to federal and state legal practice standards and institutional regulations related to patient care and fiscal management. 2.Act in a manner consistent with the Standards of Ethical Conduct for the PTA and a Guide for conduct of the PTA.3. Change behavior in response to understanding the consequences (positive and negative) of the PTA`s actions.

“The physical therapist assistant shall not alter a treatment plan or program without the prior evaluation by, and approval of, the supervising physical therapist.”
“PTA cannot perform joint mobilizations techniques and sharp debridement wound therapy.”
“The PTA cannot evaluate or develop a plan of care.”
•What is the role of the PT?
The PT integrates the five elements of patient/care management to optimize the patient/client’s outcomes. These five elements ar examination,evaluation,diagnosis,prognosis, and intervention.
◦- Works together within the same discipline. (Example- PT and PTA working together in the same home health care pt practice when other services are not necessary.)

◦- Members work separately and independently in their different disciplines. ( Different medical specialities trying to evaluate a patient for specific pathology with very little communication.
