Ch 16 Salts Equilibrium Flashcards
Anions
A- + H2O = HA + OH-
What if
Both cation is a weak acid and anions are CB of a weak acid
The anion is amphoteric
Determine which is stronger Ka or Kb
Polyprotic acids
Have to ice table as many times as there are H
Carry concentrations over to next Ice table
Relativity of Oxyacids
As electronegativity Increases, Ka increases more acidic
More oxygen a more acidic
Common ion effect
Take the ion that is in the compound asked and take that units as in ice table. Solve for s. Make sure of the squares etc.
Will ph effect solubility
Break compound into ions. Look at the conjugate acid or base pair. If weak then will effect. If strong then no.
Q>Ksp
Precipice will form
Q is initial solution molarity
Cations
