Ch. 1.4 | A Framework with Definitions Flashcards
Collinear Points
Points that lie on the same line.
Concurrent Lines
Lines that intersect at a single point.
Coplanar (lines, points)
Coplanar Points: points that lie in the same plane
Coplanar Lines: lines that lie in the same plane
Noncollinear points
Points that do not lie on the same line.
Parallel (lines, planes)
Parallel Lines: Coplanar lines that do not intersect
If two lines (j) and (k) are parallel, we write j || k. The symbol “||” is read “is parallel to”
Parallel Planes: Planes in space that do not intersect.
The symbol “||” can be used for parallel planes too.
Postulate
Describe relationships among the terms (whether defined or undefined) & not always reversible
The basic statements from which theorems are proved.
Are assumed to be true without proof.
Skew Lines
Lines that are not coplanar
Theorem
Describe relationships among the terms (whether defined or undefined) & not always reversible
A statement that can be shown to be true by a logical progression of previous terms and statements.
