CH 12 Flashcards
Phases of growth and DNA replication in the cell cycle
Interphase
Interphase consists of what 3 phases ?
G1,S,G2
G1 phase
Primary growth phase (preforms its normal functions and grows)
S phase
DNA replication (prepares for division by duplicating its chromosomes.)
G2 phase
Second growth phase (grows)
Produces two daughter cells that are genetically identical to the parents cell.
Mitosis
Produces sex cells (sperm/egg) for sexual reproduction. These only have half of the chromosomes as the parent cell.
Meiosis
Division of the cytoplasm and other parts of the cell
Cytokinesis
Duplicated chromosomes are called
Sister chromatids, they are held together by a protein complex at the centromere
A protein complex at the center of the chromosome
Centromere
What are the phases of mitosis
1.prophase 2.metaphase 3. Anaphase
What is prophase
