what is a CAT scan?

A

computed axial tomography (1970s). A procedure that uses a computer linked to an x-ray machine to make a series of detailed pictures of areas inside the body. 3D views of tissues and organs.

what is a PET scan?

A

position emission tomography. tests the efficiency of drugs, attaches a radioactive isotope to a specific molecule. checks for disease in your body

A

uses echoes of sound waves sent into the body. No radiation used. can make sound

what is an MRI?

A

magnetic resonance imaging. uses magnetic fields and radio pulses, useful for soft tissue, 3D image. fmri is functional mri for brain images, active areas light up.
