Ch 1: cavities, and levels of organization Flashcards
what are the 2 main body cavities?
dorsal and ventral
what is a dorsal cavity?
consists of 2 cavities that contain the CNS
what cavities make up the dorsal cavity?
cranial and spinal
what is the ventral cavity?
much larger than dorsal, divided by diaphragm into smaller cavities
what cavities make up the ventral cavity?
thoracic (heart and lungs), and abdonimopelvic
label the abdominopelvic cavity regions on a sheet of paper, and the quadrants of the abdomen on another.
RUQ, LUQ, RLQ, LLQ. Epigastric, Hypochondriac, Umbilical, Lumbar, Hypogastric, Iliac
what is a navel?
bellybutton
what are the levels of organization?
cellular, tissue, organ, organ system, organism
what are the 4 categories of tissue?
connective, epithelial, muscle, nervous
what is connective tissue?
supports body parts and binds them (bone and blood)
what is epithelial tissue?
lines and covers organs, carries out absorption and secretion (outer skin layer)
what is muscle tissue?
allows movement in body (walls of hollow organs)
what is nervous tissue?
transmits impulses and forms nerves (brain)
