nonuniversal
label given to a particular psychological process that does not exist in every culture.
existential universal
exists in all cultures, but the process is not necessarily used to solve the same problems, nor is it equally accessible across cultures.
Functional universal
exist in all cultures, are used to solve the same problems across cultures, yet are more accessible to people from some cultures than others.
accessibility universal
exists in all cultures, is used to solve problems across cultures and is accessible to the same degree across cultures.
Muller-Lyer Illusion
perceptual test in which two lines that are the same length appear to be different lengths depending on the lines around it and depth perception. (used to explain cultural differences.)
color-blind approach
seeing everyone as equal in spite of differences
multi-cultural approach
strategy in which focus is on respecting group differences.
ethnocentrism
judging people from other cultures by the standards of one’s own culture.
