What is a tea?
Water based herbal extracts of three types: hot infusion, cold infusion and decoction.
What is an infusion?
A method of extracting plant constituents in water, best suited for flowers and leaves. May be done hot or cold.
What is a decoction?
A water based method for extracting plant constituents, in which the plant matter is simmered for at least 25 minutes. Best suited to roots, thick barks and twigs.
What are the three most commonly used proportions of dried botanical to water for teas?
1 oz plant : 1 qt water
1 Tbs. plant : 8 oz water
1/4 c plant : 1 qt water
What is the average adult dosage for chronic conditions?
3-4 8 oz cups per day
What is the average adult dosage for acute conditions?
2-4 oz per hour, and not to exceed 64 oz per day.
What herbal ingredients are indicated for acid reflux?
Catnip, chamomile, lemon (peel), meadowsweet, papaya leaf, pau d’arco, plantain leaf, slippery elm bark, spearmint, yerba mate
