Johnson’s plan

- dedicated themselves to social and political superiority of whites
Tenure of office act
-The president wants to fire someone, it must be approved by the Senate
Military Reconstruction act
- Divided south into five military districts and unio general is in charge of government
- All qualified voters would take part in delegates to state conventions
- Had to give all rights to all citizens and most ratify14th amendment
Impeachment of Johnson
- Congress brings him up on charges known as articles of impeachment
- senate votes, they need 2/3 majority
- found not guilty, no power and finishes his term
Sharecropping
Poor farmers (of any race) who grew crops on someone else’s farm and get percentage to the landowner
15th amendment
Cannot stop someone from voting because of race
14th amendment
- Each citizen has state and federal citizenship regardless of race and when they come a citizen
- State cannot deny and individuals rights
- cannot the price someone of life, liberty, or property without due process
- cannot deny a person equal protection of the law
Freemans bureau
- Provide provisions to the former slaves
- negotiate contracts
- provide medical care and schools

So who supports the radical Republicans to make money
Black coats
- Laws set in the South to restrict the rights of freed slaves
- keep the idea of slavery alive

- past because of the black coats
- all people were full citizens except Native Americans because they didn’t pay taxes
- Johnson will veto
Wade – Davis bill
- Majority of white male citizens had to take oath to USA
- only people who can vote are those loyal to union in state conventions
Lincolns plan
– proclamation of amnesty
– confederate states would form a union government
-Took oath to support Constitution and union
-be given pardon but must support freed slaves
-military officers judges and office holders cannot be pardoned
