Q

What are the errors of instrument cross checking?

A

Fixation - Applying full concentration to one single instrument

Omission - Excluding one or more instruments from a scan

Emphasis - Unknowingly relying on an instrument you readily understand even if it’s not the most beneficial

20
Q

What are the control instruments?

A

Attitude Indicator, Tachometer, Manifold Pressure

21
Q

What are the Performance instruments?

A

Heading indicator, turn coordinator, airspeed, altimeter, VSI

22
Q

What are the magnetic compass errors?

A

DVMONA

Deviation
Variation
Magnetic Dip
Oscillation
uNos
ANDS

23
Q

What is a standard rate turn?

A

360 degrees = 2 minutes

3 degrees = 1 second

24
Q

What does the airspeed indicator get it’s information from?

A

Pitot & static
Ram pressure - static pressure = dynamic pressure

25
What is a VOR?
Very High Frequency Omni Directional Range
26
How does a VOR work?
VOR sends a reference signal and a variable signal. VOR receiver in plane will take these 2 signals to determine your bearing to the VOR.
27
What are the types of VOR checks?
Airborne (+/- 6) Ground (+/- 4) Dual (+/- 4) VOT (+/- 4) TO 180 FROM 360
28
Who can do VOR sing-offs?
PPL or higher
29
How does DME measured?
DME receiver takes the time between signal sent from plane to ground then determines distance from DME
30
What is slant range error?
If you are over 1000 ft for every 1 NM, reading will come off wrong
31
Will DME every read 0?
No. Over station it will read 6000
32
What is the point of a course deviation indicator (CDI)?
Tells you how far off course you are
33
How many degrees is a dot on the CDI?
2 degrees
34
How many miles is a dot on the CDI?
200 ft per dot per 1 NM
35
What is full scale deflection on the CDI?
10 degrees
36
At what point are you established?
Half scale deflection or less
37
What does GPS provide with number of satellites in view?
3 Satellites = 2D Position 4 satellites = 3D position 5 satellites = RAIM 6 satellites = fault detection and elimination
38
What are the components of the ILS?
GLAM Glideslope Localizer ALS Marker Beacons
39
Dimensions of localizer?
35 degrees on each side of the runway up to 10 NM. 10 degrees on each side of centerline up to 18 NM.
40
What's the point of an ALS?
Transition from instrument to visual approach
41
What are marker beacon colors and distance?
Outer marker - Blue FAF Middle Marker - Amber Missed approach point Inner Marker - White Missed approach point for Cat 2 and 3 Back course - white
42
Speed limits for hold?
0-6000 200KIAS 6001 - 14000 230 KIAS 14000+ 265 KIAS
43
Lost comms?
Highest of MEA MEA Expected Assigned AVEF (down the list) Assigned Vectored Expected Filed
44
What are the radar environment reporting points?
Compulsory reporting point
45
ODPs
Textual or graphical
46
What are the departure procedures?
200 FPM 35 ft above threshold 400 ft before turn out
