Morphology of tapeworms
hermaphroditic
always endoparasitic adults in GI tract, larval extra intestinal
adults lack body cavity and digestive tract. take in nutrients or food by absorbing nutrients through body
muscular system
morphology of cyclophyllidea
scolex head with four sucks called acetabula. scolex can be armed or have hooks or rostellum (restractable nose) with back facing hooklets. can be unarmed. used to anchor- holdfast organ.
short unsegmented neck. germinal region.
strobila body. proglottids make it up.
farther from scolex more mature.
immature proglottid
mature- sex
gravid proglottid.-degenerated sex organs. uterus distended with eggs. become detached. seen in feces.
proglottid has complete excretory system and nervous system, 1-2 sets of female and male organs

true tapeworms
dipylidium, taeniid tapeworms
psuedophyllieda
psuedotapeworms, spirometra mansonoides, diphyllobothrium spp.
development of cyclophyllideans
adult in intestine of DH
eggs (oncosphere, hexacanth embryo), or proglottid containing egg in feces
eggs in environment embryonate. 3 pairs of hooklets. IF. penetrate intestinal wall. developinto larval tapeworm- metacestode.
metacestode contains one or more scolex.
