Vertebral Artery Test
A
- tests for compression of the vertebral artery
- ask client to rotate the head and then extend
- hold position for 30 sec. and repeat on other side
- positive: dizziness, nystagmus, and nausea

Spurlings Test
A
- tests for nerve root compression
- NEER: Neutral, Extension, Extension & Rotation
- dont go onto next postion if the previous position had pain
- positive: radiating pain on same side arm
NOTE:
- if pain on opposite side, will indicate muscle spasm
- if local pain (no radiation), indicates possible facet joint irritation

Scalene Cramp Test
A
- assess TrP in scalenes or assess TOS
- client rotates head to affected side and pulls chin down so that its resting above the clavicle
-positive: pain indicating TrP in scalenes or radicular signs indicating TOS

Swallowing Test
A
- if theres pain while swallowing, assesses whether pain is due to TrP in SCM
- pincer grasp SCM, when tender spot is found apply gentle pressure and ask client to swallow
- positive: pain diminishes while swallowing indicating TrP in SCM, if pain is present while swallowing indicates throat infection, hematoma, or space occupying lesion of the cervical spine or tumor
