Name the 3 types of Torticollis.
acquired
congenital
spasmodic
Someone who has torticollis will have there head bend in what postion?
Contralateral Rotation
Lateral flexion.
What are some of the causes that can lead to acquired Torticollis?
Idiopathis often neck tauma facet irritation trigger points nerve irritation ( might happen with a throat infection)
What will the client present with if they have acquired torticollis?
Typical torticollis presentation
SCM spasm (possible other muscles involved to)
Often some level of pain/discomfort
which one of the types of toritcollis is not due to spasm?
Congenital
What causes congenital Toritcollis?
no clear cause it’s not a spasm and not painful the SCM just becomes contracted and fiberous within weeks after birth.
Spasmodic Torticollis has what causes associated with it?
CNS driven
Stress
What does spasmodic Torticollis present with in general and specifically individual to itself from the other types?
Typical torticollis presentation
Some level of pain from the spasm
Often presents with nodding of the head
When treating Acquired Torticollis what are your main goals.
Reduce spasm and pain
address causative/ contributing factors
aim to de rotation first to make them for Fx
When treating congenital Torticollis what is your main tool?
Stretching!
When treating Spasmodic Torticollis what is your main goal?
s/s will reduce as you reduce stress
otherwise it’s pretty much medical intervention out side of your abilities.
