Action of Sternocleidomastoid
Unilaterally:
•Laterally flex head and neck to same side
•Rotate head and neck to the opposite side
Bilaterally:
•Flex neck
•Assist to elevate the rib cage during inhalation

Sternal Head:
•Top of Manubrium
Clavicular Head:
• Medial 1/3 of clavical
Insertion of Sternocleidomastoid
Mastoid process of temporal bone and lateral portion of superior nuchal line
Action of Splenius Capitis
Unilaterally:
•Rotate head and neck to same side
•Laterally flex head and neck to same side
Bilaterally:
•Extend head and neck

Inferior half of ligamentum nuchae and SP of C7-T4

Mastoid process and lateral portion of superior nuchal line
