Cervical Spine CPRs Flashcards
1
Q
cervical myelopathy (3/5)
A
- age > 45
- babinski
- inverted supinator sign
- hoffman’s
- gait deviation
2
Q
cervical fracture
A
- there are high-risk factors
- it is safe to assess ROM but < 45 degrees
high-risk factors:
- age > 65 degrees
- dangerous MOI
- paresthesia in the extremities
low risk factors that allow safe assessment of ROM:
- simple rear-end MVA
- normal sitting posture in ED
- ambulatory at any time since injury
- delayed onset of neck pain and absence of midline tenderness
dangerous MOI:
- fall from > 1 m or 5 stairs
- axial load to head (eg diving)
- high speed MVA (>100 km/h), rollover, ejection
- motorized recreational vehicles
- bicycle collision
3
Q
cervical manipulation (3/4)
A
- expectation that cervical manipulation will help
- symptoms < 38 days
- difference in cervical rotation > 10 degrees between sides
- pain with P-A’s
4
Q
thoracic manipulation (4/6)
A
- symptoms < 30 days
- no symptoms distal to shoulder
- no aggravation of symptoms when looking up
- FABQ-PA < 12
- decreased thoracic kyphosis
- cervical extension ROM < 30 degrees
5
Q
traction criteria
A
- age > 55
- positive passive shoulder abduction test
- positive ULTT-A
- symptom peripheralization with central P-A motion (C4-C7)
- positive neck distraction test
