squamous epithelium
What is the transitional zone?
squamo-columnar junction which is predisposed to malignant change
What is a cervical ectropion?
red ring around the os, of endocervical epithelium extending over the paler epithelium of the ectocervix
What causes an extortion to extend temporarily
puberty, COCP, pregnancy
What changes occur due to an ectropion and why?
bleeding, XS mucus production and infection due to the columnar epithelium which is soft and glandular
What is the treatment of cervical ectropions?
none if asymptomatic, pregnant, pubertal
non-hormonal contraception
cautery w diathermy
What are nabothian cysts
Harmless mucus retention cysts found on the cervix
What are cervical polyps?
Pedunculated benign tumours of endocervical epithelium
What are the sx of cervical polyps?
increased mucus discharge, PCB
What is the usual treatment of cervical polyps?
avulsion (forcibly detach)
What is Rx of cervical polyps in peri/post-menopausal women?
TVS +/- hysterectomy
What is cervicitis?
inflammation of the cervix
What can cervicitis be divided into?
follicular or mucopurulent
How does cervicitis present?
discharge
