Cervical Orthopedic Tests Flashcards
Active Supine Occipito-Atlantal Cervical Flexion
20 degrees = lower cervical restriction
<20 = upper cervical
O’Donoghue Maneuver
Basically parts
Px during passive range of motion = ligamentous sprain
Px during resisted range of motion = muscle strain
Foramina Compression (Spurling’s A)
- Positive test is px radiating down the arm with head laterally flexed towards that side
- Indicative of nerve root compression due to foraminal stenosis, osteophytes, space occupying lesion, etc.
Modified Spurlings
- Findings are same as Spurlings
- Indicates nerve root compression with radiculopathy
Maximum Cervical Compression Test
- Px on concave side = nerve root or facet problem
- Px on convex side = muscle strain
Upper Limb Tension Test (ULTT)
-Indicates median nerve entrapment
Cervical Distraction
- Positive finding is relief of symptoms indicating foraminal encroachment
- Positive findings is recreation of symptoms = muscle spasm/strain
Jackson Cervical Compression
- Positive test is Px down the arm
- Indicates nerve root compression
Shoulder Abduction Relief Test (Bakody’s Sign)
- Positive test is Px is lessened
- Indicates nerve root compression
Shoulder Depression Test
- Positive test is Px radiating down the arm
- Indicates adhesions of dural sleeves
Spinal Percussion Test
- Local Px = fracture
- Radiating Px = disc lesion
Rust Sign
-Indicates instability due to RA, fracture, sprain, or severe subluxation
Valsalva Maneuver
- Positive test is increased pain
- Indicates space occupying lesion
Dejerine Sign
-Indicates space occupying lesion
Lhermittes sign
- Positive test = radiating pain from neck down arms
- Indicates meningeal irritation
