Cerebral Hemispheres I Flashcards

1
Q

Divisions of the cerebrum

A
  • L and R hemispheres: longitudinal fissure
  • sulci: shallow grooves that separates gyrus
  • gyri: elevated ridges of tissue
  • fissures: deep grooves that split the brain regions
  • corpus callosum: white matter that connect the hemispheres

Q

Gray vs white matter

A
  • gray matter: nonmyelinated axons and cell bodies, important region for integration (envelops white matter)
  • white matter: myelinated axon, involved with communication

Q

Regions of the cerebrum

A
  • cerebral cortex: thin covering of gray matter
  • deep to the cerebral cortex is white matter and isolated regions of gray matter
  • basal nuclei: isolated regions of gray matter
  • cerebral white matter: communication between areas of cerebral gray matter and between cerebrum and lowers CNS regions
