Cerebral Hemispheres Flashcards
What are Sulcus
Dips/grooves in the brain
What are Gyrus?
Elevations of the brain
What are Fissures
Deep grove: seperating the two hemispheres of brain.
What are the ventricles?
Cavitys within each region of the brain containing CSF.
What is the arrangment of White and Grey Matter in the Brain?
Grey matter on surface
White matter inside (Basal ganglia/nuclei–> collection of neural bodies within the white matter and is grey matter itself)
What is the Fissure that seperates the 2 cerebral hemispheres called
Median longitudinal Fissure
What is the Corpus callosum
Connects the right and left cerebral hemispheres
Lateral sulcus
Seperates the temporal lobe to the frontal lobe
Central Sulcus
Runs from the lateral sulcus superiorly to the middle of the brain.
How are the Parietal and the occipital lobe seperated
Parieto-occipital sulcus: found on the medial surface of the cerebral hemisphere
What are the Gyrus either side of the central sulcus called
Precentral Gyrus and Post central gyrus
What Sulcus and Gyrus is found on the medial surface of the hemisphere
Cingulate sulcus and the cingulate gyrus which is directly inferior to the sulcus
They also run parallel to the corpus callosum
Where is the hippocampus Found
on the medial surface of the temporal lobe, and is an inturned/curled in portion of the lobe.
What are the names of the Gyrus found in the Frontal Lobe
Superior Frontal, Middle Frontal and Infrerior Frontal gyrus
How can the parietal lobe be split up
Inferior and superior parietal lobule
