Cerebral cortex - frontal lobe and parietal lobe Flashcards

1
Q

Brodmann areas

A

Region of the cortex based on cytoarchitecture (structure and shape of the cells)
=> cells similar in appearance (shape and size) would be grouped together

Note: Brodmann DID NOT group them by function. But, the categorization in regions of the brain were later to found to have similar functions as well

Q

Primary Somatosensory Cortex
- location?
- functions?

A
  • post central gyrus
  • initial processing of tactile (touch, our skin can have these cells) and proprioceptive information (our sense of position, balanced)

=> our skin collects sensory info and sends it to the post central gyrus
