Cephalosporins fall under what category of abx?
Bactericidal, Cell-wall synthesis inhibitors, beta-lactams
1st Gen cephalosporins are which drugs and cover which bugs?
Cephalexin (Keflex), cefadroxil, cefazolin (Ancef): mainly G+
-staph aureus
2nd gen cephalosporins include which drugs?
Cofaclor, cefuroxime, cefprozil, cefoxitin, cefotetane
3rd Gen Cephalosporins include which drugs?

5th gen cephalosporins include which drugs?
Ceftaroline, ceftolozane
What is the main difference going from first gen cephalosporins to 5th gen?
1st gen has G+ coverage, as you go down you lose some G+ coverage, but gain G- coverage and CNS penetration. 5th gen has MRSA coverage
Which cephalosporin has MRSA coverage?
Ceftaroline
Which cephalosporins cover for ESBL?
Ceftazidime/Avibactam and ceftolozane/tazobactam
Do cephalosporins cover for enterococcus?
No
Which cephalosporins cover for pseudomonas?
Ceftazidime, cefepime, and ceftolozane/tazobactam
Ceftriaxone (3rd gen) is indicated for what?
Meningitis, STDs, UTI, CAP
Cefepime (4th gen) is given for what?
Pseudomonas, sepsis, pylo
Ceftolozane/Tazobactam (5th gen) covers for what?
ESBLs and pseudomonas, complicated UTIs and pylo
There is an FDA warning for which cephalosporin and what other drug?
Ceftriaxone (3rd gen) and calcium containing products (if both given IV).
-esp if under 28d old, then contraindicated. Can give sequentially w lots of flushing
