Centreline Measurements Flashcards
Centre Line Measurement
The measurement of the net length of a wall along its centre line, excluding any duplication at corners.
NRM2
New Rules of Measurement 2, used for measuring brick or block walls net in square metres along the centre line.
Perimeter Calculation
Add twice the thickness of the wall at each corner to the internal dimensions to get the perimeter.
Figured Dimensions
Dimensions given explicitly on a drawing that should be used for calculations instead of scaling.
Scaling Drawings
Used when figured dimensions are not available, but should be checked for accuracy.
Internal vs External Dimensions
Figured dimensions can be given for either the internal or external faces of walls, and either can be used for calculations.
Mean Girth
The average length of the walls measured from internal or external dimensions, adjusted for wall thickness.
Calculating Centre Line
Add half the wall thickness for each external corner to internal dimensions, or deduct for external dimensions.
Complex Shapes
Apply the same centre line calculation principles to complex building shapes.
Corner Calculations
Add the thickness of the wall for every external angle in excess of internal angles to get the mean girth.
Foundation Measurement
Use the mean girth for calculating foundation trenches, concrete footings, and forming cavities.
Perimeter of Cavity Walls
Calculate the perimeter for each component: outer skin, cavity, and inner skin.
Check Drawing Scale
Ensure CAD drawings are correctly scaled and calibrated before measurements.
