What is LIMS?
Laboratory Information Management System:
- Assigns a unique number to each case
- Sequentially numbers evidence items
- Creates a unique barcode for each evidence item
- Records an accurate chain of custody
- Items secured in a container under a unique tamper-evident seal
- Numbered seals are initialed by the submitter when present or by the CRO person processing case
- A receipt is generated listing all items submitted for the case
- A seal number is registered in LIMS and is used to track the container and its contents
- Containers are put into a secure storage are until they are delivered to the appropriate section
- The scientist assigned to the case takes ownership
What are the benefits of using LIMS?
It makes it possible to locate any piece of evidence within the CFS and determine the progress of its analysis
