What is the centre of mass in an object?
The point where all the mass of the object is concentrated
If a body is in equilibrium, what will happen to it if displaced?
It will return to it’s original position
What is tilting?
Where an object at rest is tilted due to a force applied to one side of it
When will a tilted object begin to topple?
When it is tilted so far that its centre of gravity is beyond the pivot or point of support
When an object is suspended, where does its centre of mass lie?
Below the point of suspension
How can an object be made stable?
Have a wide base, be short and have its mass concentrated at the base
How would you find the centre of mass of an object of an irregular shape?
Suspend it from three points around its edge, mark a vertical line under each point of suspension. The centre of mass is where all the lines cross.
