Central nervous System-The Brain Functions Flashcards
Where do bodily voluntary movements originate
The frontal lobe (Cerebrum)
What is the temporal lobe responsible for
Tasting Smelling Hearing
Where does sight occur
Occipital love
What is the parietal lobe responsible for
Skin sensations (pain and pleasure)
Why is the cerebellum “sports”
Because it’s responsible for partial muscle tone control, balance and posture maintenance, and the co-ordination of voluntary muscle action
How is the hypothalamus responsible for maintaining homeostasis
By controlling the autonomic system through regulating body temperature, water balance, food intake and sleep-wake cycles
What is meant by the hypothalamus is responsible for emotional responses and behavior
Pain
Pleasure
Fear
Rage
And biological rhythms and drives like the sex drive
What are the pituitary functions of the hypothalamus
The secretion of hormones like ADH and controlling hormone release
Why is the medulla oblongata associated with sex and sickness
Because it’s an impulse pathway (sex is impulsive)
It controls breathing, heartbeat, blood pressure, swallowing and peristalsis which all effect and are associated with sex
It controls sneezing, coughing, hiccoughing and salivating which are all associated with sickness
