Central Nervous System drugs Flashcards
a branch of medical science and a study of drugs that deals with the action of drugs that alter processes controlled by the nervous system
NEUROPHARMACOLOGY
One part of nervous system that includes our brain and spinal cord
CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
A medicines that include sedatives, tranquilizers, and hypnotics where this drug is used for psychiatric disorders, suppression of seizures, relief of pain, production of anesthesia
CNS DRUGS
CNS contains how many compounds that serve as neurotransmitters?
21
It protects the brain from injury or infections where it delay or prevents the entry of drugs into the brain and passage is limited to lipid-soluble agents or via specific transport systems
BLOOD BRAIN BARRIER
A condition where a person has differences in brain development and brain activity that affects attention where they have inability to concentrate and hyperactive
ADHD
A condition where a person has a severe drowsiness and sudden attacks of sleep. they can fall asleep during normal waking activities and unable to move and may collapse
NARCOLEPSY
It stimulate the release of NE and DA from the brain and SNS
AMPHETAMINES
It is a slowly progressive neurodegenerative disorder
that makes a person to have uncontrollable movements, such as shaking, stiffness, and difficulty with balance and coordination
PARKINSON’S DISEASE
A known crisis that you cant mix MAOI with Tyramine rich food because it will increase your NE which may cause?
HYPERTENSIVE CRISIS
It is a group of disorders where brain activity becomes abnormal by excessive excitablility of neurons in the CNS, causing seizures or periods of unusual behavior, and sometimes loss of awareness. characterized
EPILEPSY
a sudden, uncontrolled electrical disturbance in the brain and a general term that applies to all types of epileptic events
SEIZURE
An abnormal motor phenomenon that might happen because of sudden fever spike, tetanus, or very low blood sugar
CONVULSION
2 types of seizures
PARTIAL AND GENERALIZED SEIZURES
A sudden, involuntary movement or contraction in one or more muscles
where is often painful and decreases level of functioning
MUSCLE SPASM
It blocks neuromuscular transmission at the neuromuscular junction by
disrupting the transmission of nerve
impulses at the motor end plate, causing paralysis of the affected skeletal muscles or relaxes the skeletal muscles
NEUROMUSCULAR BLOCKING DRUGS
A drug that competes with ACh to prevent muscle from contracting, one of the thing you can use to it is that it prevents muscle injury during ECT
NON DEPOLARIZING BLOCKING DRUGS
Withdrawing from a substance that has
the potential to cause addiction can cause what? This is where the crack babies can develop when a baby withdraws from certain drugs he/she was exposed to in the womb before birth
ABSTINENCE SYNDROME
Effects of withdrawal usually start within 4 to 12 hr of the last intake
of alcohol (TRUE OR FALSE)
TRUE
One of addiction where you are craving for a certain medicine that relieves pain and manifestations are non-life-threatening, although suicidal imagination or idea may occur.
OPIOID ADDICTION
