Autonomic Nervous System drugs Flashcards
Its like the master controller of activities in the body that acts spontaneously to make adjustment to maintain vital functions. It includes the CNS and PNS
NERVOUS SYSTEM
Autonomic Nervous System is also known as
VISCERAL SYSTEM
They carry information from sensory receptors of the skin and other organs to the central nervous system.
AFFERENT
It carry motor information away from the central nervous system to the muscles and glands of the body.
EFFERENT
A portion of the nervous systems functions to maintain internal homeostasis like Involuntary functions that controls and regulates the heart, GI, respiratory system, bladder, eyes and glands
AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM/ VISCERAL SYSTEM
It consists of nerves that provide voluntary control over skeletal muscle
SOMATIC NERVOUS SYSTEM
ANS is divided into two other system what is this system that is responsible for flight or fight
SYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM
ANS is divided into two other system what is this system that is responsible for rest and digest
PARASYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM
A terminal neurotransmitter that released by nerves in the sympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system.
Norepinephrine(NE)
A Terminal Neurotransmitter of Parasympathetic nervous system which communicates between nerves
and muscles.
Acetylcholine (ACh)
A theory that explains the mechanisms by which most drugs produce
their effects and is similar to the fit of the right key in a lock.
Receptor Theory
A drug that produces the same type of
response
AGONIST
A drug will occupy a receptor
and prevent the endogenous chemical from acting so it blocks a response
ANTAGONIST
a drug that stimulates the adrenergic
receptors of the sympathetic nervous system and also called as Sympathomimetic
ADRENERGIC AGONIST
Also known as Sympatholytic, it inhibits the SNS and function of adrenergic receptors
ADRENERGIC ANTAGONIST
