Central Nervous System Flashcards
An involuntary contraction of a muscle or muscle group
Muscle spasm
A disorder in which brain activity becomes abnormal, causing seizures or periods of unusual behavior, sensations and sometimes loss of awareness.
Epilepsy
Study of drugs that alter processes controlled by the nervous system.
Neuropharmacology
It is a general term that applies to all type of epileptic events
Seizure
Type of seizure that spread widely throughout both hemisphere of the brain
Generalized Seizure
A class of drugs mainly used to treat seizures (anticonvulsant or antiepileptic drugs).
Hydantoins
A class of medications called anticonvulsants. It works by decreasing abnormal electrical activity in the brain.
Phenytoin
Used to decrease the amount of anesthetic required during surgery.
Non-depolarizing agents
This drug is used for psychiatric disorders, suppression of seizure, relief of pain, and production of anesthesia.
CNS drug
It undergoes limited spread from the focus to adjacent cortical areas
Partial Seizure
Abnormal motor phenomenon
Convulsion
A process by which information is carried across the gap between neuron and potssynaptic cell
Synaptic Transmission
It is characterized by falling asleep during normal waking activities.
Narcolepsy
Drug is for the treatment of respiratory depression caused by drug overdose and COPD.
Doxapram
This is directly/indirectly cause activation of dopamine receptors
Dopaminergic drugs
