Central Nervous System Flashcards
Study of drugs that alter processes controlled by the nervous system
Neuropharmacology
Which steps in Synaptic transmission is this - Storage of vesicles?
Step 2
What are the 3 different ways from the step 5 of synaptic transmission?
- Presynaptic nerve terminal
- Enzymatic Degradation
- Transition away from the gap
What is the purpose of CNS drugs?
Used for pyschiatric disorders, suppression of seizures, relief of pain, production of anesthesia.
What are the advantages of Blood Brain Barrier?
Advantages
1. Protect your brain from injury.
2. Prevent sudden influx of electro lights outside of the brain to going inside of the brain
3. It prevents to burst brain cells
4. It can be easier to regulate the brain
How many weeks can be see increased therapeutic effects?
Around 2 to 4 weeks
What is ADHD means?
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
If the patient had COPD, how many liters of oxygenation administer?
3 liters
What are typical appearance of Parkinson’s Disease?
-stooped posture
-rigidity
-flexed elbow and wrist
-forward tilt of trunk
-reduced arm swinging
-slightly flexed hips and knees
-trembling of extremities
-shuffling, short stepped gait
-mask facial expression
Group of disorders characterized by excessive excitability of neurons in the CNS.
EPILEPSY
What are the two types of Epilepsy?
Seizure and Convulsion
Difference between Seizure and Convulsions
Seizure is a general term that applies to all types of epileptic events while the convulsion it is an abnormal motor phenomenon.
What are the two types of seizures and difference between them?
Partial seizures - Excitation undergoes limited spread from the focus to adjacent cortical areas.
Generalized seizures - Excitation spreads widely throughout both hemispheres of the brain.
Most commonly prescribed anticonvulsant drug
Phenytoin
Effective against partial seizures and generalized tonic-clonic seizures but not absence seizures.
Phenobarbital
