Which layers of the skin does cellulitis involve?
Lower dermis/subcutaneous fat
what is the clinical manifestation of cellulitis?
Unilateral erythematous flat lesion
Often with vesicles poorly demarcated, not uniformly raised
Tender
Which sites does cellulitis normally infect?
Commonly on legs
What are the systemic symptoms (uncommon)?
Fever
Leukocytosis
Lymphadenopathy
What is the investigation for cellulitis and erysipelas?
Clinical diagnosis, rarely do skin or blood culture
If necrotising fasciitis is suspected, defo immediate biopsy and frozen section, and histopathology
What is the management for cellulitis and erysipelas?
First line - penicillin, cloaxicillin or cefazolin
Second line - clindamycin, cephalexin
If allergic to penicillin use erythromycin
