Q

Describe each GLUT

A

GLUT 1&3 - all cells

  • high affinity for glucose
  • km=1mM
  • BASAL UPATKE OF GLUVOSE

GLUT2 -liver and pancreas B cells

  • In liver, take up glcouse store as GLYCOGEN
  • in pancreas, uptake trigger INSULIN secretion, increase GLUT4 conc
  • lower affinity, only activate when BGL IS HIGH

GLUT4 - muscle and adipose cells
-5mM

GLUT 5- Transport fructose from SI
-fuctose –> GLUVOSE

Q

Describe the process where glycogen metabolism is regulated

A
Glucagon binds to R produced cAMP
PKA activated (protein kinase A)
  1. Phosphorylase kinase activated
  2. Glycogen phosphorylase activated
  3. Glycogen synthesis is inhibited
  4. More glucose is produced

Reverse effect by phosphatase (dephosphorylation)
Insulin antagonises glucagon
