cellular respiration Flashcards
where does all glucose on earth come from?
photosynthesis
what is the equation for photosynthesis?
6 co2+6 h2o+sunlight energy= c6h12o6+6 o2
what is the equation for cellular respiration?
c6h12o6+6 o2= 6 co2+6 h2o+ATP
what is oxidized in cellular respiration?
c6h12o6–> 6 co2
what is reduced in cellular respiration?
6 o2–> 6 h2o
what are the steps of cellular respiration?
- glycolysis
- intermediate step
- Krebs cycle
- electron transport chain
what happens in glycolysis?
2 pyruvate are created and 2 ATP (anaerobic)
what happens in the intermediate step?
pyruvate is oxidized to acetyl CoA
what happens in the citric acid cycle?
Inputs: acetyl CoA, oxaloacetate, water
outputs: co2, NADH, FADH2, 2ATP
(anaerobic)
what happens in the ETC?
(mitocondria, aerobic) 34 ATP produced
what is lactic acid fermentation?
making ATF without oxygen, glycolysis only
oxidize NADH and reduce pyruvate (opposite of glycolysis)
what is alcohol fermentation?
oxidize NADH and reduce pyruvate in the presence of yeast.
makes co2, and ethyl alcohol
