Cellular Processes Flashcards
What is Cellular Organisation
Multicellular organisms are composed of more than one cell, with groups of cells differentiating to take on specialized functions.
The organization of cells is called a hierarchy which means they become more complex at each level.
Describe the Cell Hierarchy
Cell (The smallest unit of life) > Tissue (Cell of the same type working together) > Organ (Tissue of different types working together) > Organ System (Multiple organs working together) > Organism (Multiple systems working together)
What is cellular respiration
-Cells need energy to function
-Cells get their energy from transformation of glucose into usable energy, also known as ATP
-This occurs through a process called cellular respiration
What is the cellular respiration equation
Glucose + Oxygen > Co2 + Water + ATP (energy)
What does cellular respiration require?
-Glucose is obtained by the digestive system
-Oxygen is obtained by the respiratory system
