Cells Test 2 Flashcards
Nucleus
The nucleus runs the cell and controls the cell activity
Plasma membrane
Regulates what enters and exits the cell
Path way
Cytoplasm
Set a positive is a jellylike material that holds everything between the cell membrane in the nucleus, area where the most activity is taken place
Endoplasmic reticulum
Canex the nucleus to other organelles, that’s where the ribosomes do their work
Ribosomes
Produces proteins for the cell manufactured by the nucleolus
Golgi apparatus
Stores protein for future use, this is where the ribosomes get packed up to get shipped out
What is an organelle
An organelle is what is inside a cell and helps the cell do it’s job
Lysosomes
Responsible for the breaking down of waste
Mostly found in animal cells
Cytoskeleton
Gives the cell structure and shape, helps the cell keep its place
Mitochondria
Changes food into energy, known as the powerhouse of the cell
Chloroplast
Captures the energy from the sunlight and uses it to produce food for the cell, only in plant cells
Cell wall
Surrounds and protects the cell, only found in plant cells
Vacuoles
Stores food, water and chemicals for the cell
It’s bigger in plant cells,
small in animal cells
List one organelle that is typically found in animal cells
Lysosomes
What are three organelles that are different in plant cells compared to an animal cell
Large vacuoles, chloroplast, cell wall
