Cell Tet 3 Flashcards
What is homeostasis
An organisms way to regulate conditions. Maintaining balance
Homeostasis is something that happens automatically
Cell-organisms do this on there own.
Examples of homeostasis
Hot sweating
Cold shiver
Energy transformation
When one form of energy changes into another
Example of energy transformation
Light energy is turned into food energy during photosynthesis in the chloroplasts
What are two major cell parts responsible for energy transformation
Mitochondria
Chloroplasts
______is the movement of gases in and out of a cell
Gas exchange
What is breathing
Taking in air into and out of your lungs
What is respiration
A chemical reaction in a cell where glucose (sugar) reacts with oxygen to make energy
How are oxygen and carbon dioxide carried around the body
By blood through the circulatory system
Two major types of molecular transport
Active
Passive
What is molecular transport
The movement of molecules in or out of the cell
List two ways that passive and active transport are different
Passive does it use energy unlike active
Passive goes from high to low concentration active goes from low to high
diffusion
A way of moving molecules across the membrane without using energy
What is osmosis
Way of moving water across the membrane without using energy
Why do cells remove waste
To maintain homeostasis
Two examples of waste removed from cell
Gas, ear wax
To organelles involved in wastes
Lysosomes, cell membrane
Define synthesis
In this case the combination of Adams to form a molecule
Two molecules synthesized in the cell
Sugar, water
