Cells Mini Test Flashcards
What is an independent variable?
The thing you are testing. Also known as the “manipulated” and the “changed” variable.
What is a dependent variable?
The thing that you are measuring. Also known as the “responding” and the “measured” variable.
What is the independent variable in this hypothesis?
As the time in the sun increases, the white shirt will get yellower.
The amount of time in the sun.
What is a control variable?
The variable that stays the same throughout the whole experiment. There is usually more than one.
What is the dependent variable in this hypothesis?
As the time in the sun increases, the white shirt will get yellower.
How yellow tree shirt gets.
What is the control variable in this hypothesis?
As the time in the sun increases, the white shirt will get yellower.

Define Mitochondria
Small, long semi-circle organelles that supply energy to other parts of the cell. They help with respiration.
Define Nucleus
Roundish structure inside a cell that acts as the control centre for the cell.
Define vacuole
Used to store water and dissolved substances.
Define cell membrane
Structure that encloses the contents of a cell and allows the movement of some materials in and out.
Define Cell Wall
It gives plant cells strength and holds them in shape. Animal cells do not have a cell wall.
Define cytoplasm
The fluid found inside cells. contains many important substances, such as glucose, that are needed for chemical reactions that occur inside cells.
Define Chloroplasts
Oval-shaped organelle found only in plant cells. Chloroplasts contain the pigment chlorophyll. They are the ‘factories’ in which photosynthesis occurs.
