Cells & Microscope Flashcards
What are Living things/organisms?
A living thing has this seven characteristics : Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion, Nutrition.
What is a cell membrane?
It is a layer around the cell that acts like a barrier.
What are Unicellular organisms?
They are organisms with only one cell
What are Objective lenses?
There are 3 objective lenses each one with a different power.
What is a Mitochondria?
This is where respiration happen when energy is released from food.
What is a cell wall?
It is the outside layer of a plant cell. It gives the cell support and structure.
Blood cell adaptations
It does not have a nucleus and contains haemoglobin to transport oxygen.
What does chloroplast do?
It traps the sunlight for photosynthesis to take place. Are found in plant cells and in some unicellular organisms.
What are eyepiece lenses?
Lenses on a microscope you can look through (x10).
What is a cell?
Is a building block of life and every living thing is made out of cells.
What is a Nucleus?
The part of a cell that contains the DNA the nucleus controls all the cells activities.
What does Cytoplasm do?
This the jelly like substance inside the cell chemical reactions take place here.
What is a permanent vacuole?
This is the large area in a plant cell which stores food (cell sap).
Nerve cell adaptations.
Long length and tail to react quickly.
Root hair cell adaptations
Long root to reach water.
