Cells & Magnification Flashcards
Where is the DNA found in a cell?
Nucleus
What happens in Mitochondria in cells?
Aerobic respiration happens in the mitochondria of cells
What is the equation of aerobic respiration?
Glucose + Oxygen –> Carbon Dioxide + Water + Energy
What is the role of the cell membrane?
It controls what enters and leaves the cell
Name the differences between plant and animal cells (three characteristics) + their functions
- Cell wall (strength & protection)
- Vacuole (storage of nutrients)
- Chloroplast (photosynthesis happens here)
Name the organelles of an animal cell + their functions
- Cytoplasm (gel-like fluid providing a platform for other organelles to operate)
- Nucleus (controls and regulates cell activity)
- Ribosome (make proteins)
- Mitochondria (energy synthesis, ATP)
- Cell membrane (controls entry and exit of substances)
What is the equation of photosynthesis in plant cells?
Carbon Dioxide + Water –> Glucose + Oxygen
What is the difference between a light microscope & an electron microscope?
The light microscope uses light & mirrors.
The electron microscope uses electrons.
Electrons have a shorter wavelength –> higher resolution image
