Cells, Diffusion, & Osmosis (4) Flashcards
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)
Puts together proteins, transports molecules, and creates lipids (fats).
Lysosome
Digests and removes waste products within the cell.
Mitochondria
Location for cellular respiration to produce ATP
(Adenosine Triphosphate)
Cellular respiration is the process of turning Glucose and Oxygen into energy the cell can use.
Nucleus
Contains genetic material (chromosomes)
Cytoplasm
Viscous jelly-like liquid throughout the cell
Nucleoplasm
Viscous jelly-like liquid inside the Nucleus
Cell Membrane
Gatekeeper and cell boundary, controls what comes in and out of the cell.
The process is referred to as Diffusion and Osmosis.
Ribosome
Uses amino acids to produce proteins.
Golgi Apparatus
Storage and secretion.
Nucleolus
Produces parts of ribosomes, which are important for the production of proteins in the cell.
Vacuole
Storage of molecules.
Cell wall
Found in plant cells, provides additional structure for the plant and protection for the cell
Chloroplasts
Location in the cell for photosynthesis
Diffusion
The movement of atoms/molecules from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.
Osmosis
Movement of solvent (typically water) across a semi permeable membrane from an area of lower solute concentration to an area of higher solute concentration
