cells - animal + plant cells Flashcards
What is the function of the cell membrane?
controls what goes in and out of the cell.
What is the role of the mitochondria?
Mitochondria releases energy via aerobic respiration.
What is the equasion for aerobic respiration?
glucose + oxygen -> carbon dioxide + water
also releases energy
What is the function of the nucleus?
The nucleus controls the activities of the cell.
What do plant cells have that animal cells don’t?
- vacoule
- chloroplast
- cell wall
What is the function of the ribosomes?
Makes proteins via proteins synthesis.
What is the function of the cytoplasm?
A jelly like substance where all the chemical reactions take place.
What contains the DNA?
The nucleus
What is the function of the vacule?
The vacuole contains cell sap which is a weak solution of sugars and salts. The vacuole keeps the cell in shape and rigid.
What is the function of the cell wall?
The cell wall contains cellulose, which helps support the plant and keep the cell strong and rigid.
What is the function of the chloroplast?
it’s where photosynthesis happens
What does the chloroplast contain?
contains a green pigment called chlorophyll
How does chlorophyll help with photosynthesis?
the chlorophyll helps absorb the light energy.
What is the equasion for photosynthesis?
Water + carbon dioxide -> glucose + oxygen
also takes in light energy
What is the root hair cell?
The root hair cell absorbs nutritients and water from the soil which goes up to the rest of the plant.
