Cells and the Microscope Flashcards
What makes up tissues?
Cells
What are cells?
Cells are made of organelles that make up all living things.
What are cells?
Cells are the units, from which living things are built. Every living thing is made up of cells. Cells can not be seen through the naked eye but only through a microscope.
What are cells produced by
Existing cells
True or false cells are the smallest unit of life
True
What are cells?
Cells are particles that make up all living things.
How many types are there and list them?
There are two types of cells which are animal cells and plant cells.
What is the heart of the cell
Nucleolus
What is a large cavity which is filled with watery fluid that stores water?
vacuole
What is a cell’s hereditary material
DNA
What do single cells form to be?
Tissues
do all plants have cells
Yes
what does Unicellular mean?
just a single cell
what does Multicellular mean?
many cells
What does the Nucleus do?
Controls the cell
What does the cell wall do?
Gives support, strength and protection to a cell
What is Cytoplasm
Where most of the cells activity takes place
What does the cell membrane do?
Holds the cell in shape and controls what goes in and out of the cell.
What is a vaccuole?
A large cavity which is stores food, fluids or waste
What does the Chloroplast do?
carries photosynthesis
How is tissue formed?
Cells group together to form tissue.
what does tissue make up?
Groups of tissue makes up organs in the human body.
What do tissues form to be?
Organs
how many types of cells are there?
around 200!
What is a leaving thing?
ANYTHING THAT MOVES !!!!!!!!!!!!!! x3
What type of microscopes are there and what is it used for?
There are two types of microscopes:
Stereo Microscope is used to find larger objects such as insects. This microscope can only see the outside of objects.
Compound Light Microscope is used to find blood cells. This microscope can see through things.
What is a cell wall?
A cell wall is the outside of a cell that provides support and strength to the cell.
Who was the first to learn about the cell?
Rudolf Virchow.
What is the definition of cells
The cell is the basic structure of all living organisms
What is there Latin name
Small room
What are the 7 organelles?
They include: Nucleus, mitochondria, cell wall, cell membrane, vacuole, chloroplast and cytoplasm.
What is the job of the mitochondria in a cell?
It’s the powerhouse of the cell and supplies energy.
Name one person that was involved in the discovery of the cell:
Robert Hooke.
Why do cells group together?
To form groups of tissue and organs to make up systems in the body.
What type of acid is in every single cell?
DNA
What does DNA stand for?
It stands for Deoxyribonucleic Acid.
What is the job of the cell wall?
Gives strength and support to the cell.
What are the three layers of the skin?
They include:
Epidermis
Dermis
Subcutaneous
On a microscope, what is the object you look through?
An eyepiece
What are cells mostly made of?
Organelles
What is the definition of nucleus?
A large round structure, which is the control centre of the cell.
What is a unicellular?
A single cell.
What is a multicellular?
Multiple cells.
What do plant cells include.
Cell wall, vacuole, cytoplasm, chloroplasts, cell membrane and nucleus.
What is the cell membrane?
Cells are wrapped in this. It controls what goes in and what goes out.
What is a cytoplasm?
This is the part of the cell inside the membrane but outside of the nucleus.
What is a vacuole?
A large cavity which is filled with watery fluid. Vacuole stores water, food and waste.
What makes up organs?
Tissues.
How many types of cells are there?
Around 200.
True or false every living thing is made up of cells.
True
How many main components does a multicellular have?
3
What is a microscope?
An optical lnstrument used for viewing very small objects.
True or false cells are made of organelles?
True
True or false all cells contain DNA.
True
What is a analogy of a red blood cell
A red blood cell is like a droplet of water in a fog
what is a lubricant
a substance used to reduce friction
what is a cell wall made of
cells
what is a organism
something made up of cells and organs
can cells die
yes
how many types of microscopes are there
2
how do cells heal scabs
they create cell walls which create tissue to cover the wound
what are the 7 organelles
They are Nucleus, Cell mambrane, cytoplasm, vacuole, cell wall, Chloroplast and mitochondria
what does dna stand for
Deoxyribon nucleic acid
what is the most common thing used in cures
A very small little bit of the partical
