Cells and respiration Flashcards
Why would you stain a cell before looking at it under a microscope?
So you can see the cell clearer
What is anaerobic respiration?
Respiration without oxygen
Where does respiration happen?
In every cell of every living organism
What kind of reaction is respiration?
It is a chemical reaction
What is aerobic respiration?
Respiration with oxygen
What do glucose and oxygen react to produce in a aerobic reaction?
Carbon dioxide and water
’ glucose + oxygen to carbon dioxide + water’
which are the reactants and which are the products?
Glucose + oxygen } Reactants
Carbon dioxide + water } Products
When does anaerobic respiration take place?
When cells can’t get enough oxygen
What is another name for a living thing?
An organism
What are the similarities of a plant cell and an animal cell?
They both have a nucleus, cytoplasm, a cell membrane and mitochondria
What do plant cells have that animal cells don’t?
A cell wall, a vacuole and chloroplasts
What does a nucleus do?
It controls what the cell does
What is cytoplasm?
It is like jelly and is where most chemical reactions happen
What is the cell membrane and what does it do?
It is a thick skin around the cell, it holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out
What is mitochondria?
Tiny structures inside the cell where most of the reactions for aerobic respiration take place
